Peak performance mindset
By iNSPIRE Sport
Mindset determines many outcomes in the sporting world. It can dictate whether you finish on or off the podium, enjoy or hate the game and how you react to a result. Except sometimes a peak performance mindset might seem hard to achieve or shift into. Our blog discusses the importance of such a mindset and how you can implement strategies to achieve your desired state.
What does a peak performance mindset mean?
In summary, a peak performance mindset is when you are mentally in the best possible position to reach your highest potential and achieve optimal outcomes. It means you are at your absolute peak in terms of mindfulness.
Why is it important?
Everyone knows that sport at any level requires a lot of focus. Pressure, injuries, expectations all can contribute to added stresses making it harder to be in the right mindset on game day. As mentioned above, a mindset determines a lot in an athlete’s day, competitions and career. If your mindset is not in a place that allows you to be the best version of yourself, then you won’t achieve your goals. It is as simple as that.
You likely have worked incredibly hard leading into a game or competition and you would not want that physical preparation to go to waste due to a lacking focus.
How to achieve it?
A great quote is “stronger the focus, stronger the outcome”. With this quote in mind, we are going to discuss goal setting and how this can influence your mindset dramatically. As an iNSPIRE user, you will be no stranger to goal setting with plenty of in-app content showcasing different means of goal setting and how they each play a significant role in achieving a peak performance mindset.
When setting your goals, use the S.M.A.R.T approach. This means setting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound goals. Establishing goals that meet this criteria will make the goal seem more achievable and less overwhelming. For more tips on S.M.A.R.T goals, click here. It is also important to set short and long term goals. This will help your larger and future goals become more comprehensible thanks to the smaller goals aligning with the plan.
What affects mindset?
It might sound dramatic but EVERYTHING can affect your mindset and potentially take away from a peak mindset. Sleep, nutrition, stress, life commitments (in and out of sport), school, study… the list goes on. To help manage these be sure to continue tracking your wellness on the iNSPIRE Sport app.
